Black Girl Magic – Spoken word by Anica and Alise Gray from Roseville Area High School.
Black Girl Magic is a concept of empowerment of black women and girls that became popularized about 10 years ago. Roseville Black Girl Magic is a student led initiative started by Anica Barze and friends at Little Canada Elementary School in 2020. They wanted to bring this concept into the school to empower students and acknowledge the accomplishments and achievements of black women and girls. With the support of her sister Alise, mother Alisha, and the wonderful staff at LC, this event was very successful. So it was mimicked during her 8th grade year at Roseville Area Middle School.
Now students at Roseville Area High School, Anica and Alise wanted to expand the impact of Black Girls Magic to the district. This school year they were able to celebrate at Harambee, Little Canada, Edgerton, Central Park, Emmet D. Williams, Parkview, RAMS, and RAHS. Celebrations included presentations, panels, career fair, speakers, photo booths, and others. The goal is to spread this initiative throughout every school in the district for the 2023-24 school year and make this a new tradition for Roseville Area Schools. #RosevilleBlackGirlMagic
