BEST Valentine’s Day EVER!!! We were a Cupid Crew that received 200 roses from Wish of a Lifetime (from AARP) to give to seniors in our community.
Before the roses were even delivered, the project started with Roseville Area High Schools AVID Students creating 200 valentines so there would be a valentine to go with each rose!
We started the day at Keys Cafe in Roseville, where our crew including Kathy, Jeena, Jeena’s son, and her friend Haley with her daughter. One man who received a rose came up to us before we left to say it was the most amazing thing he had ever seen and he would be talking about it for a long time! Another woman said her friend had lost her husband this year, and the rose was a beautiful surprise at a difficult time. The little kids brought joy to everyone!
In between other visits, Kathy stopped in at Aŋpétu Téča Education Center to give roses to seniors at the Craft Shop and those eating lunch at the Flaming Spoon.
Next we headed to Cardigan Ridge Senior Living where we were joined by 3 RAHS students. The residents were having a happy hour program and were thrilled and surprised to get a rose and a valentine. Jeena and the girls also visited the memory care unit.
In a beautiful finale to our day, in a truly multi-generational way, we went to the Roseville Senior House apartments where our high school students and Jeena’s little ones were all on hand to deliver the roses to residents who had gathered in the community room. What was special here was the number of people who took multiple roses so they could deliver them to their friends who were not able to be there. In keeping with our Do Good Roseville philosophy we know our impact is always much greater than what we can capture in pictures.
7 hours later our hearts were filled with joy showing that it truly is better to give then to receive. Was this a one day event? No, because today the residents at Roseville Senior House said they would pay it forward by helping us create inspiring cards for grade school students before MN Comprehensive Testing in April!
