Where to Donate Things

As we downsize our own homes, we are looking for places to donate things. If you have things that need a new home, first check out Donate Good Things, where you can search for organizations collecting specific items.

The next idea is to try a local Buy Nothing site. They have a free app, or you can use a Facebook site like this one for Roseville: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1095705080496874

As we find unique places to donate specific items we will update this list.

Please confirm that the sites are still accepting donations especially during the pandemic.

ClothingThe following organizations provide clothing for free to those in need:
Joseph’s Coat – St. Paul
Sharing and Caring Hands – Minneapolis
BrasI Support the Girls has a Twin Cities location for drop off. https://isupportthegirls.org/ or https://www.facebook.com/supportthegirlstwincities/.
We are working to support the homeless and at-risk women in the Twin Cities metro area by collecting new/gently used bras, new underwear and feminine hygiene products. All products stay local and are distributed to shelters and other nonprofit organizations supporting girls and women.

At the Bra Recyclers, gently used and new bras are donated to nonprofits around the world that support women and girls escaping domestic violence, human trafficking, or girls who cannot afford school because they don’t have a bra. Large numbers of bras have to be mailed to AZ.
They also have drop-off sites at Soma stores. https://www.brarecycling.com/

Free The Girls (https://freethegirls.org/) helps women rescued from sex trafficking reintegrate into their communities. Donated bras help women establish and maintain a business in the developing world. They have drop-off locations https://freethegirls.org/locations or they take donations from bra drives https://freethegirls.org/bradrive. They are location in IN.
Costume JewelryI Have Wings Breast Cancer Foundation, accepts costume and estate jewelry. They take the time to repair, clean and disinfect old costume jewelry which is available at their Spring Bling for a minimal donation to raise funds. They then give jewelry to Cinderella’s closet and indirectly help a mission in Nicaragua. Donations must be mailed to AZ. https://ihavewings.org/donate-costume-jewelry/

RETHINK Tailoring’s mission is to get as many garments that ALREADY exist BACK into rotation. We do this by altering/upcycyling/repairing old forgotten items in the closet (currently on pause), AND by teaching others how to do it themselves, with very small in-person classes, and our online classes. Additionally the in-house designs are all made from secondhand or surplus fabrics.  https://www.facebook.com/rethinktailoring/
